BMW X3 30i
As the BMW X Series expands, filling in every corner of the market, there is perhaps one segment that rightfully deserves a lot of attention; the compact crossover class. The BMW X3 alone stands for approximately 20% of BMW’s sales volume for Canada and taking into consideration the 2020 model year, this model range just keeps growing. The BMW X3 was the brand’s first compact SUV, debuting in 2003 and the second X model, appearing after the midsize X5. Now in its third generation, the X3 is a strong choice in this segment with standard xDrive AWD and the choice of varying levels of performance. The entry level X3, denoted as the 30i, has a 2.0L four-cylinder engine with a twin scroll turbocharger, a strong and characterful engine that can be found in many current BMW's 30i vehicles. Going from there, the M40i features a 3.0L straight-six engine and for the first time, the 2020 model year of the X3 introduces the first compact crossover from the M Division. The two models are the 473 horsepower X3 M and the 503 horsepower X3 M Competition. These two M cars feature an all-new 3.0L twin-turbocharged engine that will soon become the heart of the upcoming M3 performance sedan.
For the 30i model, there are two distinct model lines with this engine choice. The xLine gives the X3 more silver elements on the bumpers, side protection on the doors and silver roof rails. Overall, the xLine makes the 30i look a bit more rugged of an SUV. However, those looking to emulate the looks of the M Performance vehicles can select the M Sport Line for the 30i. This model line will make the 30i look much alike to M40i model by sharing similar styling elements. Not only does the M Sport Line change the exterior looks, M Sport brakes and other performance enhancements are included with this package.
The third generation of X3 offers a healthy list of standard equipment and comfort features in this premium segment. These comfort features include the heated front seats and a heated leather-wrapped steering wheel, BMW’s latest iteration of iDrive with wireless Apple CarPlay, a power lift-back and parking sensors on the front and rear bumpers. Other available features include: a heads-up display, heated rear seats, extended leather surfaces and a panoramic sunroof.
The new platform of the X3 and many of its features are shared with the latest generation of the X4, the coupe counterpart of this compact crossover.
